Objective: To explore changes of lung functions in asymptomatic smokers who smoke at least 15 cigarettes for 15 years or longer. Methods: 190 asymptomatic smokers and 180 asymptomatic non-smokers were enrolled and their lung functions were measured by standard method. The change of lung functions between these two groups was compared. Results: Compared with the non-smoking group, Vital Capacity(VC), Forced Vital Capacity(FVC), Article 1 second Forced Expiratory Volume(FEV1), Tiffeneau 1 second rate(FEV1/VC)of the smokers group did not change significantly, and Gaensler 1 second rate(FEV1/VC), Maximum Minute Ventilation (MVV), Forced Expiratory 50% Spirometry Expiratory Flow (FEF50%), Forced Expiratory 75% Spirometry Expiratory Flow(FEF750%), Average Spirometry Sxpiratory Flow of Forced Expiratory 25%~75%, Carbon Monoxide dispersion quantity(DLCO) of the smokers group were lowered with statistical significance. Conclusion: Through the analysis of the testing results for lung function in asymptomatic smokers, we demonstrate that some smokers appeared a tiny airways and lung dispersion function damaging but did not have clinical symptoms. Smokers should quit smoking as early as possible not only to build up their own health and quality of life but also to improve people's enviroment.
